Violent Hammer and Knife Attack at Loveland Tanning Salon Leaves Two Hospitalized

LOVELAND, Colorado โ€” A horrific and unprovoked attack at a local tanning salon on Tuesday evening, December 9, 2025, has left an employee and a customer hospitalized with severe injuries, and a transient man facing multiple felony charges, including attempted first-degree murder.

Brutal Assault Inside Endless Summer Tanning

According to the Loveland Police Department, the incident unfolded just before 7:00 p.m. at Endless Summer Tanning, located in the 1518 block of Madison Avenue. Police reports indicate that 20-year-old Kyle Matthew Behrens, a transient man formerly residing in the Longmont area, entered the salon and immediately targeted a 21-year-old female employee. Without warning, Behrens began striking her repeatedly in the head with a hammer.

In a desperate bid to escape the assault, the bloodied employee ran into a nearby room where a customer was located and locked the door. However, Behrens pursued her, using the hammer to smash through the door. Once inside, he produced a knife and escalated the assault, attacking both the employee and the customer.

Rapid Police Response and Arrest

911 dispatchers received calls of screams and active violence coming from the salon. Officers responded swiftly, arriving at the scene within approximately three minutes. Upon entering, police found Behrens still actively attempting to harm the victims. Officers were able to physically intervene and take Behrens into custody without further violence.

Both victims suffered significant injuries. The 21-year-old employee was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, having been struck by the hammer more than 15 times, sustaining life-threatening head trauma. The customer was also treated at the hospital for severe cuts and defensive wounds.

Severe Charges Filed

Kyle Matthew Behrens was booked into the Larimer County Jail. Prosecutors have charged him with attempted first-degree murder (with extreme indifference), first-degree burglary with a deadly weapon, and multiple counts of assault with a deadly weapon. The motive behind the attack remains unknown, and authorities have confirmed there was no prior relationship between the suspect and the victims.
