Violent Southeast Portland Robbery Leaves Elderly Liquor Store Owner Critically Injured
PORTLAND, Ore. — A violent confrontation during a commercial robbery in Southeast Portland has left an elderly business owner fighting for her life in the hospital. The incident, which occurred at the Powell Liquor Store, has triggered community outrage and a police hunt for three masked suspects.
On the afternoon of Friday, October 31, 2025, police responded to emergency calls at Powell Liquor Store, located at 5120 Southeast Powell Boulevard. Reports indicate that three masked men entered the establishment, grabbed merchandise from the shelves, and attempted to leave without paying.
Owner Dragged by Suspects' Vehicle
The situation escalated rapidly when the 73-year-old co-owner of the store followed the suspects out into the parking lot. In an attempt to retrieve the stolen goods, she reached into the suspects' fleeing vehicle. The suspects slammed the car door on her, trapping her, and accelerated out of the lot, dragging the elderly woman for a significant distance before she fell onto the asphalt.
First responders rushed the victim to a local trauma center. She suffered severe physical trauma, including a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and multiple lacerations. Family members have gathered at her bedside, asking the community for prayers and any information that could lead to the arrest of those responsible.
Investigation and Community Reaction
The Portland Police Bureau is investigating the robbery as a first-degree assault and robbery. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from the store and surrounding businesses to identify the vehicle and the three suspects. Neighbors and regular customers have expressed deep shock, describing the owner as a dedicated and kind member of the community who has operated the store for years.
