Watch: Robbers use sledgehammer to break open jewelry cases at WestShore Plaza mall

TAMPA, FL — Police have released dramatic surveillance footage capturing a brazen daytime smash-and-grab robbery at a jewelry store inside the WestShore Plaza mall, where suspects utilized a sledgehammer to shatter display cases.

The heist occurred during regular operating hours at the shopping mall. According to the Tampa Police Department, several masked individuals entered the jewelry store and immediately went to work with a sledgehammer, smashing the reinforced glass cases in front of startled employees and shoppers. Within minutes, the suspects grabbed high-value jewelry and watches, stuffing them into bags before fleeing the mall.

The loud smashing sounds initially caused panic among mall patrons, some of whom mistook the noise for active gunfire. The mall was briefly locked down as law enforcement searched the area, but the suspects had already fled in a waiting getaway vehicle.

Detectives are actively reviewing the security footage and asking the public for assistance in identifying the suspects involved in the heist. No store staff or mall visitors were injured during the incident.
