West Belfast Man Jailed Following Armed Audacious Raids on Lavery's Bar and Greek Restaurant
BELFAST โ A West Belfast man has been sentenced to prison following a series of high-profile break-ins targeting popular hospitality venues in the city, including the iconic Laveryโs Bar on Bradbury Place.
Targeting Belfast's Hospitality Sector
The defendant was prosecuted after launching armed raids on Lavery's Bar and a nearby Greek restaurant. The court heard that during the break-in at Laveryโs Bar, the intruder was armed with a knife, causing significant alarm. The popular venue, a staple of Belfast's nightlife, was forced to review security protocols following the intrusion. The perpetrator did not limit his criminal activities to the bar, also targeting a local Greek eatery in a similar manner.
Sentencing in Court
During the sentencing hearing, the judge noted the premeditated nature of the burglaries and the risk posed by carrying a knife during commercial break-ins. The prosecution highlighted the impact of such crimes on local businesses, which are already navigating a challenging economic climate. The defense offered mitigation, but the judge ruled that a custodial sentence was necessary to deter similar offences and protect the city's commercial community. The offender was subsequently jailed, bringing a close to the police investigation into the spree.
