West Hollywood marijuana shop owned by Bill Maher, Woody Harrelson ransacked by thieves
WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA โ A high-profile cannabis dispensary co-owned by actor Woody Harrelson and political commentator Bill Maher was burglarized in the early morning hours, adding to a string of recent retail break-ins targeting cannabis businesses in West Hollywood.
The incident occurred at The Woods WeHo, located at 8271 Santa Monica Boulevard. According to reports from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, a group of five masked suspects in hooded sweatshirts smashed the glass front entrance of the dispensary around 4:30 a.m. to gain entry.
Surveillance Captures Quick Ransacking
Security footage shows the suspects quickly moving through the sales floor, filling large bags with cannabis products and other retail merchandise. The entire heist took place in under two minutes, after which the suspects fled the scene in a waiting getaway vehicle before law enforcement arrived.
Early estimates suggest that the burglars made off with approximately $2,500 to $3,000 worth of products. Fortunately, no employees were on the premises at the time of the break-in, and no injuries were reported.
A Broader Industry Trend
This burglary is the second time the celebrity-owned establishment has been targeted within a six-month period. Sheriff's deputies are investigating a possible connection between this incident and an attempted burglary that occurred just two days prior at another dispensary in West Los Angeles, where a security guard fired warning shots to disperse a group of masked suspects.
The legal cannabis industry continues to lobby for increased protections and federal banking reform, arguing that the cash-heavy nature of the business and the high value of the products make dispensaries primary targets for organized retail theft rings.
