West Seattle Crime Wave: Gatewood Home Burglary and Repeat Commercial Break-ins Strike Alki

The West Seattle community is grappling with a multi-faceted increase in property crime, spanning residential break-ins, business burglaries, and vehicle-related thefts. Recent security updates highlight a residential burglary in the Gatewood neighborhood, alongside a series of recurring business break-ins on the Alki beachfront corridor.

In Gatewood, homeowners reported a disturbing entry where valuables were taken, heightening anxiety among neighbors. Meanwhile, businesses along Alki continue to bear the brunt of commercial property crime, with several establishments reporting repeat burglaries within short timeframes, forcing owners to reconsider security measures and opening hours.

Beyond break-ins, the neighborhood has also experienced other issues, including vehicles dumped in local greenbelts, mail package thefts, and catalytic converter thefts. In one particular case, residents on a single street block reported that their vehicles were targeted twice for catalytic converter theft in a matter of weeks. Community councils are encouraging neighbors to report suspicious activity and coordinate on watch groups to deter opportunistic thieves.
