Wichita Police Deploy Drone to Track and Apprehend Circle K Robbery Suspect

WICHITA, Kansas — High-tech policing tools were instrumental in bringing a swift end to a convenience store robbery investigation on Sunday. The Wichita Police Department successfully deployed an unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) to track down a suspect fleeing from a Circle K store.

The incident began when police received a call reporting a robbery at the Circle K. Officers responded quickly to the location, but the suspect had already fled on foot. Knowing the suspect was in the immediate vicinity, responding officers launched a police drone to scan the surrounding area from above.

The drone pilot quickly located a person matching the suspect's description walking through a residential area nearby. The drone tracked the individual's movements in real-time, allowing ground units to coordinate and intercept the suspect without further incident. The suspect was taken into custody, and police recovered evidence linking them to the robbery. Authorities emphasized that the use of drone technology not only increases the efficiency of suspect apprehension but also improves safety for both officers and the public during high-stress situations.
