Three shop robberies lead to prison sentences in Nelson

According to an article published on 12 July 2024 by the Lancashiretelegraph, a woman has been jailed for more than seven years for committing three knifepoint robberies at shops in Nelson. Amy Cowburn, 32, carried out the offences over three days in November 2023.

The Lancashiretelegraph reports that the first incident occurred on November 22 at a pharmacy on Chapel House Road, where medication was stolen. On the following day, Cowburn and an accomplice, Robert White, stole £1,500 from Best Booze on Barkerhouse Road. During the final robbery on November 24, Cowburn entered the One Stop shop on Netherfield Road armed with a machete, threatening staff before stealing £175 from the till.

Cowburn was arrested on December 7 and later pleaded guilty to three counts of robbery. At Preston Crown Court, she received a sentence of seven years and four months for the final robbery, with concurrent sentences for the previous two offences. Robert White was also sentenced to three years and six months for his involvement in the Best Booze robbery.
