Woodstock Food Cart Pod Target of Persistent After-Hours Break-Ins
PORTLAND, Ore. — Business owners at a popular Portland food cart pod are voicing their frustration and vulnerability after a series of overnight break-ins left multiple carts damaged and ransacked.
The string of burglaries took place during the early hours of Thursday, June 4, 2026, at The Heist Food Cart Pod, located in the Woodstock neighborhood of Southeast Portland. Carts that had just finished serving crowds during the busy dinner rush were targeted after the pod closed for the night.
Repeated Burglaries Target Vendors
According to vendors, the thieves forced open windows and doors of several carts, stealing cash registers, iPad POS systems, inventory, and expensive kitchen equipment. The financial impact is significant for these small businesses, which must deal with lost revenue, repair costs, and rising insurance premiums.
โYou work all day, clean up, and then you get a call at 3 a.m. that someone smashed your window,โ said one cart operator. โItโs exhausting and discouraging.โ
Discrepancy in Crime Statistics
The recent break-ins at The Heist highlight a growing frustration among local merchants. While Portland Police Bureau data suggests a downward trend in retail and property crimes in the North and East Precincts, business owners on the ground say they feel more exposed than ever. The Woodstock community has rallied around the affected vendors, with some residents calling for increased patrols and better security lighting in the area.
Portland Police are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the pod in an attempt to identify the perpetrators.
