Worcester Police Arrest Local Man Following Armed Robbery of Southwest Cutoff Liquor Store
WORCESTER, Mass. โ A Worcester man is behind bars after allegedly committing an armed robbery at a liquor store on Southwest Cutoff, thanks in part to a quick-thinking witness who followed the suspect and updated police dispatcher teams.
Liam Chagnon, 36, of Worcester, was taken into custody on August 5, 2025, and charged with armed robbery and brandishing a firearm. The incident began around late afternoon when Chagnon entered the establishment, demanded merchandise, and pulled out a handgun to threaten the employee on duty.
Vigilant Witness Tailed the Suspect
According to police reports, a manager at a nearby business noticed suspicious activity at the store and saw Chagnon exiting in a hurry. The manager immediately called 911 and followed the suspect at a safe distance, providing real-time location updates to responding police units.
Officers flooded the area and spotted Chagnon on Greenwood Street. He was detained without further incident. A search of the suspect and the immediate vicinity revealed the stolen merchandise and a handgun matching the description provided by the clerk.
No injuries were reported during the encounter. Chagnon is scheduled to be arraigned in Worcester District Court.
