Wrexham Shop Owner Helped by Ryan Reynolds Reflects on 'Life-Changing' Burglary Support

The owner of a Wrexham-based independent business has spoken out about how a devastating burglary that almost forced him to close his doors ended up changing his life for the better, thanks to a surprise intervention from Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

A Devastating Blow for Local Shop

Stephen Tapp, who runs Wrexham Trainer Revival—a specialized business dedicated to restoring, repairing, and customizing athletic footwear—was left "completely broken" after his shop was targeted and ransacked in late October 2023. Thieves stole approximately £7,000 worth of customer stock and specialized tools, leaving Tapp facing ruin and considering shutting down the business permanently.

Hollywood Stars Step In

Following the break-in, members of the local Wrexham community set up a GoFundMe crowdfunding page with a target of £3,500 to help Tapp get back on his feet. The campaign caught the attention of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the co-owners of Wrexham AFC. The Hollywood duo immediately made a donation that fully funded the target amount, allowing Tapp to replace the stolen stock and secure the shop.

Reflecting on the support, Tapp expressed his immense gratitude to the community and the football club owners.
