Yakima Woman Defends Home, Fights Off Intruder with Baseball Bat

YAKIMA, WA — A Yakima woman successfully defended her home and herself after surprising an intruder inside her residence and fighting him off with a baseball bat, local police reported.

A Sudden Confrontation

The homeowner was inside her residence when she heard unusual noises coming from another room. Upon investigating, she came face-to-face with an unknown man who had forced entry into her home. Reacting quickly, the resident grabbed a nearby baseball bat to protect herself from the intruder.

Fending Off the Suspect

When the intruder advanced toward her, the woman swung the bat, striking the suspect and forcing him to retreat. The physical resistance caught the intruder off guard, prompting him to flee the home through the same entry point he had used. The homeowner immediately contacted 911 following the suspect's escape.

Law Enforcement Response

Yakima police officers searched the surrounding neighborhood but were unable to locate the suspect immediately. K-9 units were deployed to assist in tracking, and investigators are canvassing the area for potential home security camera footage that may have captured the suspect fleeing. The homeowner was shaken but physically unharmed during the encounter.
