Walkie-Talkie Bandits Caught on Camera in Brazen Calgary Break-In Attempt

A family in southeast Calgary has been left severely shaken after sharing chilling home security footage that captured masked individuals actively attempting to smash their way into their residence.

Coordinated Attempt on Douglasdale Point

The unsettling incident took place at a home located on Douglasdale Point at approximately 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 19. The homeowners, who wish to remain anonymous out of fear for their ongoing safety, provided the footage to local media.

The video clearly shows two masked individuals approaching the property under the cover of darkness. The suspects appear highly organized, circling the perimeter of the home while holding walkie-talkies, seemingly coordinating their actions with a third unseen accomplice.

At one point in the footage, one of the masked suspects approaches a ground-floor door. Using an unidentified heavy object, the suspect repeatedly attempts to smash the glass window to gain entry. Fortunately, the reinforced glass held strong, thwarting the break-in attempt.

A City-Wide Break-In Trend

The targeted couple immediately contacted the Calgary Police Service (CPS), who responded to the scene and launched an investigation. The homeowners noted that this is not an isolated incident for their neighbourhood, as several nearby residents have also reported recent break-ins and similar attempted intrusions.

Calgary Police have confirmed they are investigating the Douglasdale incident as part of a much larger, alarming trend of residential break-and-enters plaguing the city.

Since the beginning of 2026, officers report that there have been over 43 confirmed break-ins or attempted break-ins targeting homes across multiple Calgary communities. Hard-hit neighbourhoods include Scenic Acres, Woodbine, the Hamptons, and Edgemont.

Investigators are urgently appealing to residents living in or around Douglasdale Point to review any home security footage, doorbell camera recordings, or dashcam video captured on the evening of February 19.

Anyone with footage or information regarding these organized break-in attempts is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service non-emergency line at 403-266-1234. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Deterring Organized Intruders

The use of walkie-talkies indicates these suspects are operating as an organized crew. To protect your home against coordinated attacks, experts recommend the following:

  • Install Security Window Film: The Douglasdale home was saved because the window glass did not shatter completely. Applying transparent security film to ground-floor windows makes the glass highly resistant to blunt force impacts, delaying entry and creating excessive noise.
  • Enhance Perimeter Lighting: Install bright, motion-activated floodlights around all sides of your home. Organized thieves rely on darkness to communicate and maneuver undetected; sudden illumination is a strong deterrent.
  • Prominently Display Cameras: While hidden cameras are good for gathering evidence, visible cameras actively deter criminals. Ensure your cameras are easily seen from the street to signal that the property is under active surveillance.
