Home Defense at Night

A home invasion during the night is a terrifying scenario. Consider the following measures to better protect your home while your family sleeps:

  • Keep Doors Locked: Double-check that all exterior doors, including the door connecting an attached garage to the house, are locked securely before going to bed.
  • Use Exterior Lighting: Ensure your property has adequate, motion-sensor exterior lighting to eliminate dark areas where suspects might hide before attempting entry.
  • Sleep with Your Phone: Always keep a charged cell phone next to your bed so you can immediately dial 911 if you hear an intruder in your home.
  • Install a Home Security System: A monitored alarm system that chimes or blares when doors are opened can instantly alert you to an unauthorized entry, giving you crucial seconds to react.
