Masked Suspect Sought After Break-In at Georgetown Home on Arborglen Drive

Halton Regional Police are appealing to the public for information following a destructive break-and-enter at a residential property in Georgetown over the weekend that resulted in the theft of valuable items.

Details of the Break-In

According to police reports, the burglary took place at a home located on Arborglen Drive. The suspect managed to gain entry to the residence by forcefully prying open a rear sliding glass door, a common but vulnerable access point in many suburban homes.

Once inside, the perpetrator searched the home and successfully made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, along with several pieces of jewelry and watches.

Suspect Description Released

While a detailed physical description is not currently available, police have released some identifying information about the suspect based on initial investigations. The individual is described as a male who was actively attempting to conceal his identity by wearing a medical mask, a hoodie pulled up, and gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints.

Halton Regional Police are urging anyone who lives in the Arborglen Drive area to review their home security camera or doorbell footage from the weekend for any signs of this individual or any other suspicious activity.

Anyone with information that could assist investigators is asked to contact the police directly at 905-825-4777. For those who wish to remain anonymous, tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at haltoncrimestoppers.ca.

Securing Sliding Glass Doors

Sliding glass doors are frequently targeted by burglars because their factory locks are often weak and easily bypassed. Improve your home's security with these upgrades:

  • Install a Security Bar: Place a sturdy metal or wooden dowel in the track of the sliding door. This physically prevents the door from being forced open even if the lock is broken.
  • Add Secondary Locks: Install a specialized sliding door lock, such as a pin lock or a loop lock, which secures the door to the frame and makes it much harder to pry open or lift off its tracks.
  • Apply Security Film: Apply a clear, shatter-resistant security film to the glass pane. If a burglar attempts to smash the glass, the film holds the shards together, significantly delaying their entry.
  • Use Glass Break Sensors: If you have a home alarm system, ensure a glass break audio sensor is installed in the same room as the sliding door to trigger the alarm the moment the glass is shattered.
