Suspect Sought After Early Morning Intrusion at Milton Residence
Halton Regional Police are investigating a frightening early morning break-and-enter in Milton that resulted in a homeowner coming face-to-face with an intruder.
Intruder Frightened Off by Homeowner
The incident occurred on May 5 at approximately 5:40 a.m. at a residence located on Cabot Trail. According to police reports, the suspect gained unauthorized entry to the home by accessing a side door.
The situation escalated when a female resident woke up to discover the unknown man inside her house. Startled but resilient, the woman confronted the would-be burglar. The confrontation successfully frightened the suspect, causing him to immediately flee the premises.
Fortunately, the homeowner did not suffer any physical injuries during the terrifying ordeal, and police have confirmed that no property was stolen from the residence.
Suspect Description
Police have released a preliminary description of the suspect based on the homeowner's account. The intruder is described as a Black male, approximately six feet tall, who was wearing dark-coloured clothing at the time of the break-in.
Halton police are urging anyone residing in the Cabot Trail area to review their doorbell cameras or home security systems for any suspicious activity around the time of the incident.

Securing Side Entries
Side doors and secondary entrances are frequent targets for burglars as they often lack the heavy-duty locks of front doors and provide more cover from street view. Enhance your home's security with these tips:
- Upgrade Your Hardware: Ensure all exterior doors, including side and garage access doors, are equipped with a high-quality deadbolt lock with at least a one-inch throw.
- Reinforce the Door Frame: A strong lock is useless if the door frame is weak. Install a heavy-duty metal strike plate using long screws (at least 3 inches) that reach the wall stud behind the frame.
- Install Motion Sensor Lighting: Illuminate the side of your home. Motion-activated floodlights can startle an approaching intruder and draw unwanted attention to their activities.
- Always Lock Up: Make it a strict habit to lock all exterior doors immediately, even if you are just stepping out for a moment or are awake inside the home.
