Gardaí Seek Three Youths After Burglary at House in Inishowen
Gardaí have launched an investigation following a reported burglary at a residential property in the Burnfoot area of Inishowen. Authorities are now appealing to the public for assistance in identifying three individuals who were spotted in the vicinity at the time of the incident.
Window Smashed, House Disturbed
According to official reports, the break-in took place at a house located in Tievebane during the early hours of Wednesday, June 17. The intruders gained entry to the property by completely smashing one of the side windows. Once inside, the perpetrators rummaged through the home, leaving several items noticeably disturbed. However, after an initial assessment, it is believed that the suspects fled empty-handed and nothing of value was ultimately stolen.
Gardaí Appeal for Dashcam Footage
Investigators are piecing together the timeline of events and are particularly keen to speak with anyone who might have captured relevant footage. Gardaí are urgently appealing to motorists who travelled through the Tievebane or Burnfoot areas between 1:00 am and 3:00 am on the morning of June 17 to check their dashcams.
Additionally, eyewitnesses have reported seeing three youths acting suspiciously in the area during that critical two-hour timeframe. The trio was observed carrying torches, and notably, one of them was riding a bicycle. Anyone with information regarding the identity of these youths, or anyone who noticed any other unusual activity, is strongly urged to contact Buncrana Garda Station directly at 074-9320540.
Protect Your Property from Break-ins
Burglars often look for the easiest point of entry. To secure your home against similar incidents, consider implementing these preventative measures:
- Upgrade Window Security: Standard glass can be easily broken. Consider installing laminated or toughened security glass on accessible ground-floor windows. Window locks and restrictors also add a crucial layer of defense.
- Install Motion-Sensor Lighting: Bright, sudden illumination is a strong deterrent for criminals operating under the cover of darkness. Ensure the perimeter of your home, especially side and rear entrances, is well-lit.
- Secure Tools and Objects: Do not leave ladders, gardening tools, or heavy objects lying around your yard. Burglars frequently use items found on the property to smash windows or force doors open.
- Visible Alarm Systems: A professionally installed and clearly visible burglar alarm box on the exterior of your house is one of the most effective ways to deter potential intruders.
