Newbridge & Naas: Gardaí Probe Linked Daytime Burglaries
Law enforcement in County Kildare has issued an alert to residents following two brazen daytime break-ins that occurred in close proximity to one another. Based on the timing and the methods used by the perpetrators, Gardaí strongly suspect that the two incidents, which took place in Newbridge and Naas, are the work of the same individuals.
Similar MO and a Suspicious Silver BMW
During a recent broadcast on local radio station KFM, Garda Sarah O'Sullivan detailed the sequence of events that unfolded on Thursday, June 4th. The first incident targeted a residential property located in the Great Connell area of Newbridge. Sometime between the hours of 10:00 am and 12:10 pm, intruders gained access to the home. The thieves managed to steal a specific item of jewellery along with €210 in cash. A critical detail emerging from this first scene is the reported sighting of a suspicious silver BMW operating in the area around the time of the break-in.
Shortly thereafter, a second burglary was reported, this time in the Lakelands region of Naas. This incident occurred during a narrow window between 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm. While the suspects managed to thoroughly ransack the interior of the house, it appears they fled empty-handed, as no items were reported stolen. Garda O'Sullivan noted that the "similar MOs" (Modus Operandi) across both crime scenes have led investigators to officially link the two cases. Gardaí are currently appealing to anyone with information or dashcam footage from the Great Connell or Lakelands areas on June 4th to contact the Newbridge Garda Station (045 440 180) or the Naas Garda Station (045 884 300).
Prevention: Defending Against Daytime Intruders
Daytime burglaries are incredibly common, as thieves assume homes will be unoccupied while residents are at work or running errands. To fortify your home against this specific threat, consider the following preventative measures:
- Lock Up, Even for Short Trips: The Naas and Newbridge burglaries happened within very short timeframes. Never leave doors unlocked or windows open, even if you are only leaving the house for a quick errand or a school run.
- Neighborhood Watch: The sighting of the silver BMW highlights the importance of vigilant neighbors. If you notice an unfamiliar vehicle slowly cruising your street, parking oddly, or individuals walking up to front doors and quickly leaving, note the license plate and report it to local Gardaí immediately.
- Secure the Perimeter: Ensure side gates are locked with sturdy padlocks to prevent easy access to the less visible rear of the property. Thorny bushes planted under ground-floor windows can also act as an excellent natural deterrent.
- Don't Broadcast Your Absence: Avoid posting your daily routine, vacation plans, or check-ins on public social media accounts. Thieves often use these platforms to determine when a house will be empty.
