ATM Stolen in Early Morning Raid at Newtownabbey Petrol Station

An investigation is underway in County Antrim after an ATM was stolen during a commercial raid at a petrol station in Newtownabbey early on Thursday morning, 16th January 2025.

The incident occurred during the early hours of the morning when a group of individuals targeted the cash machine located at the service station. The thieves managed to extract the ATM from the premises, causing substantial damage to the building's facade in the process. The suspects fled the scene with the machine before police could arrive.

Local politicians and community leaders have condemned the attack, highlighting the impact of such crimes on the accessibility of cash services in the area. "This is a serious hit on a vital local service," a spokesperson remarked. "These raids cause massive damage, not just financially to the owners, but to the confidence of the local community."

Detectives have appealed for anyone who saw any suspicious vehicles, particularly heavy machinery or vans, in the Newtownabbey area between midnight and 5:00 AM on Thursday to come forward. Anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage is also requested to contact the Police Service of Northern Ireland on 101, quoting the incident reference number.
