Attempted Armed Home Invasion in Lawrenceville

On the evening of October 1, 2023, a man attempted to break into a residence in the 100 block of South Norcross Street, Lawrenceville, Georgia. The suspect, armed with a handgun, was seen attempting to gain entry through a rear door. The homeowner, alerted by the commotion, confronted the intruder, leading to a struggle. The suspect fled the scene on foot, dropping the handgun during his escape. The homeowner was not injured during the incident.

The Gwinnett County Police Department responded to the scene and initiated a pursuit of the suspect. The chase ended when the suspect was apprehended by police officers a short distance from the residence. The suspect, identified as a 34-year-old Lawrenceville resident, was arrested and charged with attempted home invasion while armed, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and obstruction of an officer. The handgun used in the attempted invasion was recovered by police. The value of the stolen property, if any, was not disclosed. Police are appealing to the public for any additional information that could aid in their investigation.
