Burglary and Shooting Incident Leaves One Dead, One Injured in East El Paso

A burglary call in East El Paso triggered an hours-long SWAT standoff on Saturday, April 22, 2023. The incident began when an unknown number of suspects entered a residence in the 10000 block of Montwood Drive, near the intersection of Gateway Boulevard and Montwood Drive, around 10:30 PM. The suspects, armed with guns, forced their way into the home and stole an unspecified amount of cash and jewelry, valued at approximately $10,000.

During the burglary, a man was shot and killed, and a woman was wounded. The suspects fled the scene and barricaded themselves in a nearby apartment, leading to a standoff with police. Two suspects were arrested following the standoff. The identities of the suspects and the victims have not been released. No injuries were reported among the police officers involved. The police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
