Burglary at East Providence Convenience Store Leads to Arrest

On the night of October 1, 2023, a burglary occurred at the Stop & Shop convenience store located at 123 Main Street, East Providence, Rhode Island. The suspect, identified as a local resident, broke into the store through a rear window, which was shattered to gain entry. The intruder then proceeded to steal approximately $1,000 in cash from the register and a significant quantity of cigarettes.

East Providence Police responded to the scene and found the store's alarm system had been triggered. Upon arrival, they discovered the broken window and the missing items. The police immediately launched an investigation and, within hours, arrested a 35-year-old East Providence man who was found in possession of the stolen cash and cigarettes. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and transported to the East Providence Police Department for further questioning. No injuries were reported in the incident.

The police have not yet released the name of the suspect pending further investigation. The arrest was made possible through the swift response of the police and the activation of the store's alarm system, which alerted authorities to the break-in.
