Distraction Burglary in Columbus Involving Fake Tree Removals

Columbus police are investigating a distraction burglary that occurred on the 2000 block of West 5th Avenue in Columbus, Ohio. The incident took place on October 1, 2023, when two suspects posed as tree removal workers to gain entry into a residence. The suspects, who were not wearing uniforms, claimed to be removing a tree and asked the homeowner to move a vehicle. While the homeowner was distracted, the suspects entered the house and stole jewelry and cash valued at approximately $5,000.

The suspects fled the scene in a white SUV. No injuries were reported, and the homeowner was unaware of the theft until later.
