Five Arrested, Teen Wanted in Vaughan Home Invasion That Left Beloved Father Dead

VAUGHAN, ONTARIO — York Regional Police have announced the arrest of five individuals and are seeking a Canada-wide warrant for a sixth suspect in connection with a violent home invasion in late August 2025 that left a beloved father of four dead.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, August 31, 2025, when multiple armed individuals forced entry into a residence in the area of Andreeta Drive and Barons Street. Upon arrival, emergency responders located 46-year-old Abdul Aleem Farooqi suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite resuscitation efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Arrests and Charged Individuals

Following a multi-month investigation by York Regional Police homicide detectives, five suspects have been apprehended, and multiple charges have been laid:

  • Amir Wiam Mohammad Abuhmaid, 26, faces a charge of first-degree murder, alongside robbery with a firearm.
  • A 34-year-old male from Toronto has been charged with accessory after the fact to robbery with a firearm.
  • Three individuals from Toronto—a 25-year-old and two 16-year-old youths—face charges of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, believed to be linked to a stolen getaway vehicle.

Due to the age of the youth suspects, their identities are protected under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Canada-wide Warrant Issued

Investigators are searching for one final suspect, a 16-year-old male, who remains at large. Police obtained temporary judicial authorization to release his photograph and name to the public, stressing that he should be considered armed and dangerous. Members of the public are advised not to approach him but to call 911 immediately if spotted.

Family and friends of Abdul Aleem Farooqi continue to mourn the loss, remembering him as a devoted father and a pillar of the local congregation. Police urge anyone with information, surveillance footage, or dashcam recordings from the area on the night of the attack to contact the Homicide Unit at 1-866-876-5423 ext. 7865.
