Knifepoint Robbery at St Austell Shop Leaves Staff Shaken After Vapes Stolen

Staff at a local retail outlet in St Austell have been left deeply shaken after a terrifying knifepoint robbery took place on Monday afternoon, leading to a swift response from Devon and Cornwall Police. The incident, which occurred on August 5, 2024, involved a suspect entering the store and brandishing a knife to intimidate employees.

According to police reports, the individual threatened staff members at the counter with the weapon before demanding merchandise. The robber subsequently made off with a quantity of valuable vaping products, fleeing the scene on foot. Fortunately, no physical injuries were reported during the encounter, though the staff members present were treated for shock.

Police Investigation and Witness Appeal

Devon and Cornwall Police immediately launched an investigation into the robbery, deploying officers and local search units to locate the suspect. Crime scene investigators have also examined the store for forensic evidence and CCTV footage from the shop and neighboring businesses is currently being reviewed.

A spokesperson for the police stated: "This was a highly distressing incident for the retail workers involved. We are appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity of St Austell town center on Monday afternoon and witnessed suspicious behavior, or anyone who might have dashcam footage, to contact us immediately."

The authorities are also warning the public to be vigilant and report any individuals attempting to sell quantities of commercial vaping products in suspicious circumstances.
