Machete wielding burglar charged for robbery and possession of knife after barging into Portsmouth home

A terrifying residential burglary in Portsmouth has resulted in multiple criminal charges for a suspect who allegedly forced his way into a home while brandishing a machete. The suspect has been formally charged with aggravated burglary, robbery, and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place following a swift police response.

The incident occurred late Friday when the suspect barged through the front door of the property, confronting the occupant inside. Brandishing the large blade, the intruder demanded valuables and threatened the resident. Fortunately, the victim was able to raise the alarm, prompting the suspect to flee the scene with stolen items.

Responding officers located the suspect nearby shortly after the incident, still in possession of a knife. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident. Law enforcement officials praised the victim's quick thinking and emphasized their commitment to tackling violent crime in the area. The suspect is currently being held in custody pending a court appearance.
