Man Charged with Burglary After Breaking into Two Homes in Portsmouth

A 32-year-old man has been charged with burglary after breaking into two homes in Portsmouth and stealing cash. The incidents occurred on the night of 19th June 2023, in the Copnor area of the city. The suspect gained entry to the properties by forcing open the back doors, and stole a total of £1,500 in cash. The first burglary occurred at a house on Copnor Road, and the second at a nearby property on Copnor Lane.

The suspect, who was identified as a local resident, was apprehended by police on 20th June 2023, after a member of the public reported seeing a man matching the description of the suspect fleeing the scene of the second burglary. The suspect was injured during his arrest and was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital for treatment. The injuries were not life-threatening. Police have not yet released the name of the suspect, who is due to appear in court on 22nd June 2023. Officers are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information about the incidents to come forward and contact them.
