Pensioner Assaulted and Robbed by Masked Gang in Motherwell Home Invasion

Detectives in Motherwell are appealing for information following a violent home invasion on Clydesdale Street that left a 74-year-old pensioner injured and shaken. The incident, which took place in the early hours of April 20, 2025, involved a coordinated attack by four masked men who forced entry into the elderly victim's home.

Assault and Vehicle Theft

Police Scotland reported that at approximately 2:45 a.m. on April 20, 2025, four suspects forced their way into the residential property. Once inside, they confronted the 74-year-old homeowner, threatening and assaulting him. The suspects then ransacked the property, eventually locating the keys to the victim's Volkswagen Transporter van. The gang fled the scene in the stolen vehicle, which was loaded with professional electrical tools.

Police Appeal and Suspect Descriptions

Investigators believe the group of men had been hanging around Clydesdale Street prior to launching the attack. The suspects are described as wearing dark clothing, gloves, and face coverings, and they spoke with local Lanarkshire accents. Police have launched a full-scale investigation and are urging neighbors and motorists who were in the area to check their CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage for any suspicious activity around the time of the incident.

Community Impact and Safety Concerns

The violent nature of the break-in has sent shockwaves through the Motherwell community, with local representatives calling for stronger measures to protect vulnerable elderly residents. Detective Inspector Alistair Anderson condemned the assault, calling it a cowardly act targeting a senior citizen in his own home. Police patrols have been stepped up in the Clydesdale Street area to reassure the public while investigations continue to trace the stolen van and identify the suspects.
