Police Launch Investigation Following Early Hours Break-In at East Kilbride Supermarket

Detectives in East Kilbride have launched an investigation following a break-in at a major supermarket in the town during the early hours of Wednesday, October 2, 2024.

Police officers were called to the Morrisons store situated on MacNeish Way in the Stewartfield area after reports of an intrusion were received in the dead of night.

Crime Scene Cordoned Off

Emergency services responded to the supermarket at around 3:15 a.m. relative to the break-in. Upon arrival, officers secured the scene. Morning shoppers arriving at the store later that day were greeted by blue-and-white police tape blocking access to the store's cafe entrance, as forensic officers and investigators examined the area for evidence.

While the main entrance of the supermarket remained open to the public, the cafe and surrounding area were temporarily closed off while the initial phase of the investigation took place.

Ongoing Inquiries

The supermarket giant confirmed the incident and stated that store management is cooperating fully with law enforcement. A spokesperson for Morrisons said: "We are currently assisting Police Scotland with their ongoing inquiries into an incident that occurred at our East Kilbride store overnight."

It remains unclear what items were targeted or stolen during the break-in, and police have not yet confirmed if any suspects have been identified or arrested.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland stated: "Around 3:15 a.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, police were called to a report of a break-in at premises on MacNeish Way, East Kilbride. Enquiries are at an early stage and ongoing."

Police are urging anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the Stewartfield area, or any motorists with dashcam footage who were driving near MacNeish Way between 2:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m., to contact officers via 101, quoting incident number 0317 of October 2, 2024.
