Ram-Raid Attempts Target Scunthorpe Co-op and JD Sports in Early Hours
In the early hours of Friday, 8 November 2024, commercial premises in Scunthorpe became the target of attempted ram-raids, sparking a police investigation into the coordinated disruption. Both a local Co-operative food store and a JD Sports outlet in the area were singled out by the perpetrators.
According to reports, the incidents occurred back-to-back under the cover of darkness. In both cases, suspects attempted to force entry into the retail locations using a vehicle. Despite causing significant structural damage to the storefronts, the perpetrators were ultimately unsuccessful in their attempts to breach the premises and secure goods before fleeing the scene.
Humberside Police arrived at the targeted locations shortly after the alarms were triggered. Officers cordoned off the areas surrounding the Co-op and JD Sports stores to facilitate forensic investigations. Detectives are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the business premises and surrounding streets, searching for any identifying marks on the vehicles involved or the suspects themselves.
Local business owners have expressed their growing concern over retail security in the area following the attempted raids. "It is deeply unsettling to hear about such aggressive tactics being used in our town centre," said one local shopkeeper. "The damage caused to these shop fronts is extensive, and even though they didn't manage to steal anything, the disruption and cost of repairs are a massive blow."
Police have urged anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity, or who has dashcam footage from the vicinity of the stores during the early hours of November 8, to contact them immediately to assist with the ongoing inquiry.
