Redlands Homeowner Shoots Intruder During Late-Night Burglary

On the night of January 11, 2024, a homeowner in Redlands, California, shot an armed intruder during a late-night burglary attempt. The incident occurred at a residence on the 100 block of West Cypress Avenue. The intruder, later identified as 28-year-old Jose Luis Martinez, forced entry into the home through a rear window around 11:30 PM. Martinez was armed with a handgun and was attempting to steal valuables when the homeowner confronted him. The homeowner, who was legally armed, fired a shot, striking Martinez in the leg. Martinez fled the scene but was later apprehended by police a short distance away. The stolen items, valued at approximately $5,000, were recovered from Martinez's possession.

Martinez was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries before being booked into the West Valley Detention Center. He faces charges of burglary, attempted robbery, and possession of a stolen firearm. The homeowner was not injured during the incident.
