Stolen Lorry Rams Arbroath Convenience Store: Man Arrested and Charged
An investigation is underway in Arbroath after a stolen lorry was deliberately driven into a local convenience store, causing catastrophic structural damage to the building. The dramatic incident, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, March 25, 2024, shocked local residents and business owners alike.
According to Police Scotland, the vehicle involved had been reported stolen shortly before the incident. It was then driven directly into the storefront of the convenience store, shattering the main entrance and causing extensive damage to the structural pillars and interior fixtures. Emergency services, including structural engineers, were called to the scene to assess the safety of the building.
Following a rapid police response, a man was arrested and subsequently charged in connection with the theft of the lorry and the subsequent ramming. Police have reassured the local community that this was an isolated incident, and no injuries were reported from inside the shop, which was closed at the time.
Local residents expressed their shock at the scale of the destruction. "It sounded like an explosion," said one neighbour who witnessed the aftermath. The store is expected to remain closed for a significant period while repairs are carried out to make the structure safe.
