Teen Injured in Carjacking Attempt at Yonkers Gas Station

On August 19, 2023, an off-duty New York State Trooper was involved in a carjacking attempt at a gas station on Central Avenue in Yonkers. The incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. when a teenager approached the trooper's vehicle and attempted to steal it. The trooper, who was off-duty at the time, drew his weapon and fired, striking the teenager in the leg. The trooper was not injured during the incident.

The teenager, identified as a 17-year-old male, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. After receiving medical attention, he was arrested and charged with attempted carjacking. The stolen vehicle, a 2023 Toyota Camry, was recovered by police. The value of the vehicle was estimated at $25,000. The teenager was also found to be in possession of a stolen handgun, which was recovered by the police. The handgun was valued at $500. The teenager was taken into custody and transported to a local detention facility.
