Wood River Woman Charged With Home Invasion and Battery

On the evening of May 29, 2023, a burglary occurred at a residence on the 100 block of East 1st Street in Wood River, Illinois. The suspect, identified as a 35-year-old woman, broke into the home through a rear window. The homeowner, a 50-year-old man, was present during the incident and attempted to intervene, resulting in a physical altercation. The suspect struck the homeowner in the head with a blunt object, causing injuries that required medical attention. The suspect fled the scene on foot, taking a television and a laptop valued at approximately $1,500.

Wood River Police Department responded to the scene and conducted an investigation. The suspect was later apprehended and charged with home invasion and battery. The homeowner's injuries were not life-threatening, and he is expected to make a full recovery.
