Armed Robbery at Antioch Food Maxx Leads to Officer-Involved Shooting

On February 2023, a suspect was shot and killed by police after an armed robbery at the Food Maxx store located at 3101 Lone Tree Way in Antioch, California. The suspect, later identified as 31-year-old Antonio Martinez, entered the store and demanded cash from the register, fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect then attempted to escape in a getaway car, but an Antioch police officer became trapped inside the vehicle during the pursuit. The officer was able to extricate himself and fired his weapon, striking Martinez. Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer was not injured during the incident.

Bodycam footage released by the Antioch Police Department shows the officer becoming stuck inside the suspect's vehicle as he attempted to apprehend him. The video also captures the moment the officer fires his weapon, leading to the suspect's death. The Antioch Police Department has appealed to the public for any additional information that may help in the investigation, although no arrests have been made beyond the fatal shooting of Martinez. The incident remains under investigation by the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office.
