According to an article published by the Dailyrecord on 29 March 2024, a 30-year-old man has been arrested and charged following a series of ram raids in Arbroath. The incidents, which involved the use of a stolen lorry, resulted in significant damage to commercial properties on Mayfield Terrace and High Street.
Police Scotland confirmed that the events took place on Friday, 15 March, and Friday, 22 March 2024. The Mayfield Foodstore sustained severe structural damage after being struck by the vehicle, and a parked car was also damaged during the spree. The stolen lorry, which was used in the raids, has been recovered but is considered a total loss by its owner.
The accused appeared at Forfar Sheriff Court to face charges including theft by housebreaking, theft of a motor vehicle, and attempted housebreaking. He has been remanded in custody.
Business owners are encouraged to review their perimeter security measures and consider installing bollards or reinforced barriers to prevent unauthorized vehicle access to their premises.
