Slovenia: Residential Burglaries Surge 49.8% Over Three-Year Period

Official data from Eurostat confirms a sustained, three-year rise in residential burglaries across Slovenia. Between 2021 and 2024, the number of recorded cases climbed from 4,748 to 7,113, representing a cumulative increase of 49.8% over the period. This consistent upward trajectory marks a significant shift in the volume of residential property crime within the country.

The escalation in residential burglaries began in 2021, when 4,748 incidents were recorded. By 2022, the number of cases rose to 5,606. This momentum continued into 2023, with the total reaching 6,173 recorded burglaries. The most recent data for 2024 shows the figure climbing further to 7,113 cases, completing a three-year cycle of consecutive annual increases.

When adjusted for population, the prevalence of residential burglaries provides a standardized view of the impact across the country. In 2024, the national rate reached 94.64 per 100,000 inhabitants. Regional variations in these rates indicate that the burden of residential burglary is not distributed evenly, with specific areas experiencing significantly higher concentrations of incidents relative to their population size.

The SI0 region recorded the highest absolute number of cases with 2,010 burglaries, followed by SI04 with 1,055 cases and SI03 with 955 cases. When analyzing the frequency of the offence per 100,000 inhabitants, the SI037 area emerged as the most affected, recording a rate of 198.93 per 100,000. Other areas with notable rates include SI041 at 115.86 per 100,000 and SI036 at 110.49 per 100,000. Conversely, the lowest recorded rate among the reporting areas was in SI033, at 35.47 per 100,000.
